Yes. Electric snow-melt systems are designed to prevent accumulation, not just melt existing snow. When the control system activates before snow builds up, the surface stays clear through most accumulation events. Heavy snowfall may still leave some residue at the edges, but repeat clearing and salting are significantly reduced.

Concrete and asphalt walkways can be retrofitted with surface-mounted cables under a thin overlay. Paver walkways are lifted, fitted with snow melting mats, and relaid without replacing the pavers. New pours allow cables to be embedded before the surface is finished, which is the cleanest option.

Each winter without a system means repeated freeze-thaw cycles on the same surface. On sloped Golden-area paths, that pattern accelerates surface cracking and increases slip risk after every overnight refreeze. Delaying also means another season of shoveling and salt application, which further degrades concrete and paver surfaces.

Coverage is scoped to the full walkway width during planning. Partial layouts that only cover the center leave cold edges where meltwater collects and refreezes. The coverage area and cable spacing are confirmed in the written estimate before installation begins.
